Why you are a Russian Blue

You are not unfriendly — you are selective, and the difference matters enormously to you. You choose one person, you are devoted to them in a way that surprises people who think you are cold, and you simply do not perform for anyone else. Strangers arriving is not a social opportunity, it is a reason to be elsewhere. You like your days to look like your other days. Furniture moving, schedules changing, visitors staying over: each of these costs you something, and you would appreciate some warning.

The real Russian Blue

A natural breed, traditionally said to come from the port of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia. The defining feature is a dense double coat of even blue with silver-tipped guard hairs, which is what gives it that shimmer, paired with vivid green eyes. Note one thing commonly claimed and never demonstrated: Russian Blues are often marketed as hypoallergenic, but no study has ever measured Fel d 1 levels in the breed, and both the ACAAI and AAAAI contradict the idea of a hypoallergenic cat.

Honestly, what is hard about a Russian Blue?

A Russian Blue will hide from your visitors for the entire evening and genuinely dislikes changes to its routine, so it suits a calm, predictable household far better than a busy or noisy one.

One more thing

The silver tipping on each guard hair is what produces the shimmer — the cat is not actually a lighter colour, the light is being reflected off the hair tips.
